Too Much Scarface

First off, no disrespect to one of my favorite rapper's of all time Scarface from Houston,Texas(Geto Boys 4 Life!). Anyways, while in the mall today trying to find the latest in electronics I ran into a younggin' with a Scarface T-shirt. It showed a gritty looking Cuban with a dusty nose (cocaine residue) with words on the bottom that read "The World Is Yours".We are all familiar with the classic movie remade by Oliver Stone in the early 80s before I was born. The million-dollar question would be, why is Scarface such a significant figure in the lives of young black men today.First, he was not black he was a Cuban refugee who willfully came to this country. Second, he was not only a drug dealer but a heavy user, which led to his paranoia and later the killing of his best friend and brother-in-law Manny. Fast-forward he dies under the influence of coke, his sister is murdered sanguinely and he leaves his child fatherless. It does not take a rocket scientist to see that this type of influence is not needed for our future generations.I will admit that it is a great story of FICTION and we should leave it at that. As hip hop and grown men alike we should support education of black history. Not the ignoble black education we receive in grade school, but an in depth look into our pages of history. Where we can be inspired to change the world around us for the better and not just for our conquering.

pick Immortal Technique's new album, in the track "Harlem Renaissance" he breaks it down.

Tony Montana was played by Al Pacino, an Italian (ironically, this is eerily similar to white cats who wore red face to play Indians in those old westerns). which is racist in of itself.

but we have also clung to italian mafioso images as well
